Important Spring Only Classes
Spring is here, a time when many of us start thinking about all kinds of fun in the sun. Now’s the time to register for one of the many outdoor training's available to Girl Scout volunteers. Below are a view classes that we recommend and are only offered during the Spring.
Introduction to Outdoor Activities:
This course is offered several times this spring. This is the class for you if your troop wants to do a backyard overnight or go on a hike.
Basic Troop Camping:
(Requirement: completion of Introduction to Outdoor Activities) This class consists of a pre-plan and an overnight session. At the pre-plan you will work with others to plan your meals and equipment for the overnight so you will need to attend the pre-plan that is matched with the overnight in our adult education guide.
Special All-In-One Intro, Pre-plan and Basic Troop Camping:
Want to get all your troop camp classes done in one weekend and enjoy our beautiful resident Camp Menzies setting? If the answer is yes, the September 25, 26, 27, 2009 class is for you. You complete the Introduction to Outdoor Activities and the Pre-plan classes on Friday, then complete Basic Troop Camping on Saturday and Sunday.
American Red Cross Waterfront Lifeguard Training:
June 5 through 8 at Camp Menzies. $150 fee includes meals and lodging, as well as training that meets Safety-Wise requirements for guarding lakes, rivers, or streams as well as swimming pools.
American Red Cross Basic Water Rescue:
April 5 or May 3, Sacramento area, $25 fee. This will qualify you to serve as a “watcher” to assist lifeguards as stated in Safety-Wise.
Wilderness First Aid:
June 9 and 10 at Camp Menzies, $125 fee includes meals and site costs as well as training that qualifies you to serve as a Girl Scout Level 2 First Aider. This training is excellent for those looking to take girls on backcountry adventures.
Introduction to Backpacking:
April 5. The Introduction to Backpacking course is required if you wish to attend the May 3 (pre-plan) and May 30-31 Backpacking Adventure or the June 14 (pre-plan) and June 27-28 Backpacking Adventure.
Leave No Trace Trainer:
March 7-8 or April 25-26, both at Fleming Treehouse. $20 fee for Girl Scout members includes site and food as well as training and materials. This is a great class for experienced campers who want to go the next step in teaching minimum impact activities to girls or adults.
