We are excited to offer several programs that allow girls to travel throughout the Sierra Nevada Mountains and beyond.  Travel programs include a minimum of two to six nights of travel and may not include time at Camp Menzies.  Unless otherwise noted, girls will be camping in campgrounds during their travels.

*These programs do not spend time at Camp Menzies and will not include horseback riding.

Aqua Art, New

Entering Grades: 6th-8th

Capture the beauty of the Sierra Nevada mountains with watercolor paints, design your own fountain, and create a water-filled display as you experiment with different art mediums using and inspired by water.  Sleep under the stars, or bring your own tent.

Entering Grades: 8th-12th

Raft on a Class 3 river, try scuba diving in a pool, and enjoy sailing on a local lake as you work to complete your Adventurer or Water badge.  Don’t forget swimming, canoeing and the other activities available to you at camp.  Sleep under the stars, or bring your own tent.

Art in 3 Dimensions

Entering Grades: 6th-8th

Let the beauty of Camp Menzies inspire the artist within you.  Work with plaster, tile and clay during this special art-inspired session.  Visit a local kiln shop and talk to the artists about what inspires them.  Complete parts of the Amaze Journey.  Sleep in sleeping cabins.

Camp Quest

Entering Grades: 6th-8th

Design the perfect in-camp program with your unit.  Choose from swimming, canoeing, arts ‘n’ crafts, nature study, archery and more.  Plan a day trip to a fun location in Calaveras County.  A great opportunity for both new and returning campers.  Sleep under the stars, or bring your own tent.

Camp Surprise

Comic Artist, New

Entering Grades: 8th-12th

Release your imagination and appreciate the world around you at Camp Menzies as you explore painting, sculpting, music, science, writing and more! Engineers

Entering Grades: 6th-8th

Build a rubber band catapult, try to keep your egg from cracking during an egg drop, and particpate in the Camp Menzies model bridge building competition.  Each day you will be faced with a new engineering challenge.  Discover the physics and the fun of the other activities we offer at camp.  Sleep in sleeping cabins.

Geo Explorers, New

Entering Grades: 7th-12th

Learn more about rocks, minerals and fossils as you spelunk, climb, swim and rappel throughout the Sierra Nevada mountains.  Complete parts of the It’s Your World - Change it Journey as you work as a team to meet each new challenge.  (Girls must be 12 years old and weigh more than 100 lbs. to rappel.)

Entering Grades: 7th-9th

Discover the beauty and culture of San Francisco.  Walk along the Golden Gate Bridge, explore the California Academy of Sciences, experience the Exploratorium’s Tactile Dome, shop on Pier 39, and enjoy ice cream at Ghirardelli Square.  Sleep at a youth hostel in San Francisco.  Fee includes entrance fees, van transportation from Sacramento or Stockton, housing, meals, and a patch.

Menzies Master Chefs

Entering Grades: 6th-8th

Become a master chef as you try gourmet cooking in the kitchen and the outdoors throughout this tasty session.  Compete in a cooking competition, visit a local restaurant to tour the kitchen, and plan a special dessert for the entire camp.  When you are not cooking, try all the other activities camp has to offer.  Sleep in sleeping cabins.

Menzies Mountain Riders

Entering Grades: 6th-8th

Improve your horsewomanship skills in this intermediate riding program.  Work on timing, rhythm and balance during four hours of horseback riding sessions and participate in ground sessions on the care and feeding of horses.  When you’re not riding, try out all the other activities camp has to offer.  Campers will spend time with the horses each day, but may not ride every day.  Sleep in sleeping cabins.  Prerequisite: Must have participated in two Passport to Ride lessons or have 10 hours of riding experience prior to camp.

Night Owls

Trot 'n' Trek

Entering Grades: 7th-9th

Two of Us

Entering Grades: 2nd-12th

Join us for a fun-filled four days designed to give campers a taste of camp life and the outdoors with their special adult there to experience it all with them.  An opportunity to help your camper get familiar with Camp Menzies.  Adults must be 18 or older.  Only one adult per camper please.  BUS TRANSPORTATION IS NOT PROVIDED.  Fee includes both participants.  Campers 6th grade and older will have the option of participating in our traditional Two of Us session or trying a session geared toward older girls and returning campers.

Under Construction

Entering Grades: 7th-12th

Be part of a special construction crew of girls ages 13-18 with members of the Sacramento Chapter of NAWIC (National Association of Women in Construction) and other volunteers from the construction industry.  Swing hammers, pound nails and learn how to use power tools as you build a new structure at Camp Menzies.   Sleep in sleeping cabins.

Spend a week in the beautiful backyard of Yosemite National Park while learning more about the park environment!
