Girl Scout Silver Award

Did you know that the Girl Scout Silver Award Guidelines are changing?

Click here to see how the new Girl Scout Silver award guidelines compare to the old

GSUSA is asking for a 2 year transition period to allow girls who have already started working on their awards to complete under the old guidelines.  Girls will have from summer 2009, when the new guidelines are released, through September 30, 2011 to transition to the new guidelines. The guidelines will become official on October 1, 2011 (beginning of the 2012 membership year). If a girl starts working on the award in 2011 and the majority of work will be done during the 2012 membership year, the new guidelines should be used.

Girls who wish to start this year under the new guidelines can click here to find resources and information on the GSUSA’s Web site. Starting in Sept/Oct, 2010, GSHCC girl award classes will begin to focus on the new guidelines.

Adult Award Advisor classes will begin to include both options for earning the awards starting in January, 2010.  Prior to this time, adults can click here to find information (Adult guides) on the new award guidelines.

Our Girl Scout Silver Award Classes:

Girl Scouts Heart of Central California Girl Award trainings for the coming membership year 2009-2010 will continue to focus on the old guidelines.

Go For It Silver! – Earning the Girl Scout Silver Award

The Girl Scout Silver Award symbolizes an 11- to 14-year-old Girl Scout's accomplishments in Girl Scouting and community activities as she matures and works to better her life and the lives of others.

Girl Scouts in 6th grade can begin working on the Girl Scout Silver Award and have until September 30th of the year they enter 10th grade to turn in their finished award report. Girls must be in 7th grade before they start the service project portion of the award.

Girls working on either Girl Scout Silver Award are required to turn in a project proposal (as part of the proposal packet) to the program specialist that oversees that award, as well as a project report after completion of the project. After the award paperwork is turned in girls are invited to attend an annual award ceremony held in May of each year.

Before starting your final project, make sure you send in your proposal packet to the council for approval. Even if your advisor is authorized to approve the proposal, a copy still needs to be sent to the council before you begin. Click here to get the Girl Scout Silver Award Proposal Packet!
