What is a bridging ceremony?

test2 A bridging ceremony is held when Girl Scout Daisies "cross the bridge" to the next level—Girl Scout Brownies. It is one of the important milestones in Girl Scouting, and Girl Scout Daisies should help as much as possible in its planning. They can create invitations, decide which refreshments to serve, and offer ideas for the content of the ceremony you should also involve the troop committee, and invite girls' families to attend.

At the bridging ceremony girls may receive the following insignia and awards:

  • Girl Scout Brownie Pin
  • World Trefoil Pin (some people prefer to give these to Girl Scouts on their first experience of Thinking Day)
  • Bridging to Girl Scout Brownie Award One-year membership star

What are the steps to briding to Girl Scout Brownie?

To prepare for the next level, Girl Scout Daisies will need to learn about Girl Scouting. Girl Scout Brownies from a sister troop, and their leader, would be very helpful in this process. Bridging activities allow girls to sample some of what the next age group does.

The bridging activities described below are designed to be carried out in only a few meetings, since girls at this age will not understand the meaning of activities carried out over a long period of time Your role is to help them understand what they are doing, but allow them to make their own choices about activities as much as possible.

Bridging Step 1
Girls learn about Girl Scout Brownieing by doing one of the following:

  • Invite some Girl Scout Brownies to talk about Girl Scout Brownieing.
  • Visit a Girl Scout Brownie troop during a planning meeting.
  • Have girls look through the Girl Scout Brownie Handbook and the Try-Its for Girl Scout Brownies book.

Bridging Step 2
Girls complete a Girl Scout Brownie activity by doing one of the following:

  • Find out about three things that Girl Scout Brownies do.
  • Complete an activity in the Girl Scout Brownie Handbook.
  • Ask a Girl Scout Brownie to tell about some of the things she does.

Bridging Step 3
Girls do one of the following with a Girl Scout Brownie:

  • Plan and carry out a service project with Girl Scout Brownies.
  • Go on a field trip with Girl Scout Brownies.
  • Visit Girl Scout Brownies at one of their meetings and complete an activity with them.

Bridging Step 4
Girls help plan their bridging ceremony They can:

  • Work with your Girl Scout Brownie sister troop to plan the bridging ceremony.
  • Have girls make up a song for the ceremony.
