Girl Scouts Heart of Central California council is excited to offer three brand new year-round programs utilizing our council owned horses. These programs are designed to inspire girls and allow them to discover the world of horses. After 15 years of developing this program, GSHCC is proud to bring it to our members.

Horse Tails Fee: $30
Age Level: 2nd and 3rd grade girls
This two-hour program includes a ground session on horse safety and knot tying and a horseback riding lesson. We are offering one level of this program this year and plan on offering more progressive levels in the future.

*Jamestown is located near Angels Camp, Murphys and Columbia State Park, there are many wonderful places to see in the area if your troop wants to plan a whole field trip around this event. Trailblazers Fee: $70
Age Level: Girls in 4th grade and older
This special overnight camping program is designed for troops and individuals. It will include trail riding and special horseback riding demonstrations, as well as traditional camp activities. Fee includes horseback riding instruction, program materials, a participation patch and meals. Troops will need to have a troop camp certified adult and a troop first aider at the event. You can register with a troop, or as an individual, for this program event, using the event registration forms in the programs section of eCouncil.

Passport to Ride
Age Level: Girls in 4th grade and older
Fee: $40.00 per girl, per lesson
This progressive program has been designed for individual girls rather than troops. It includes a series of lessons, which will allow girls to gain the knowledge and skills needed to work safely around horses. Each level of this program consists of four different three-hour lessons. Each lesson includes two ground sessions and a horseback riding session. Girls need to start with Level 1, Lesson 1, which will include ground sessions on horse safety, knot tying and safely leading a horse. Topics for the other ground sessions in Level 1 and in Level 2 include saddling, bridling, horse anatomy, horse coloration and horse psychology. Each level will also include more hands-on practice with the horses as well more advanced riding skills. Fee includes horseback riding instruction, program materials and a participation patch. How to Register
Registrations may be submitted by mail, fax, in person or online. Telephone registrations will not be accepted. If you are not registering online please use the Individual Event Registration Form (form #3541a) which can be found in the forms and references section of the Web site or in the event calendar. You can register for more than one lesson per day as long as you attend them in order, for example Lesson 1 in the morning and Lesson 2 in the afternoon. If you plan to attend more than one lesson, a separate registration form is required for each. (Photocopies will be accepted).
Buddies
The Passport to Ride program is for individual girls rather than troops. You may request to be with one special friend in the same lesson. To be considered for the same lesson, you and your buddy must write a note on the bottom of your registration form requesting each other and the registration forms need to be mailed in the same envelope or faxed together. When you are requesting to be with a buddy, you must mail or fax in your forms together, you cannot request buddies when you register online.
