Do you dream about working at Camp Menzies someday? Are you looking
for leadership opportunities? Do you want to serve as a role model and
mentor for younger Girl Scouts? You can do all that while earning your
Counselor-in-Training (CIT) award! Through Girl Scouts Heart of
Central California, there are opportunities at both resident camp and
day camp. Girls can help prepare our next generation of leaders
through training in youth development, group dynamics, safety and
outdoor living. In addition to these workshops, there is also hands-on
practical experience working directly with younger girls. The CIT
program is designed to teach participants the basics of developing and
delivering camp programs, as well as information on camp
operations–perfect for aspiring camp counselors!
Our Wrangler-in-Training (WIT) program earns the CIT award and runs
parallel to the Camp Menzies CIT Program. WITs focus on horseback
riding and work with our wranglers to learn about horse care and
delivering horse programs. Participation and movement in the WIT
program is subject to the approval of the Riding Director.
The CIT experience begins at the point of application. To enroll,
girls must first complete the application below. Upon review of the
applications, GSHCC will invite girls to participate in an informal
interview prior to being placed into the program. Girls must be
available to attend a training workshop prior to the beginning of the
summer season. Apprentice CITs must also submit three references in
addition to their application.
