1st grade-Juniors! Explore 300 years of the states history, arts and culture in the California Time Traveler Day Camp! This week-long day camp led by the California Museum offers engaging learning experiences as participants travel back in time to some of the states significant eras and then journey into the future. This special combination of exhibit tours and hands-on activities begins on Monday in pre-statehood California and ends on Friday as campers envision the future they want to live in.

Program facilitated by: California Museum.

 

Program Fee: $180 for girl members.

 

Program Fee Includes: In-person instruction, all needed materials and a space for Girl Scouts to make new friends. A badge is not included.

 

Supplies Needed:

  • Face masks are required while indoors for all participants
  • Snacks
  • Wear comfortable clothing and footwear for indoor and outdoor activities.
  • Refillable water bottle
  • Sunscreen
  • Hat
  • Souvenir money to spend at the Museum Store on the last day of camp.

Note: This event takes place in an indoor and outdoor setting.

 

Adult Supervision: Adult supervision will be provided by California Museum staff. This is a drop off event.

  • This event is hosted and run by a third party. GSHCC staff will not be present.

Daily Themes:

  • Monday: Early Statehood & Black Pioneers - Campers will explore our temporary exhibit, Black Pioneers: Legacy and the American West and discover some of the early ways Black Americans came to California. Through skillfully crafted quilts, campers will explore various ways Black Californians have made their impact during a formative period in our states history.
  • Tuesday: 1850s-1860s Chinese Californians - Campers will explore our Gold Mountain exhibit and learn about Chinese Californians contributions to the early years of California statehood. Campers will focus on the different industries Chinese Californians helped establish including agriculture, fishing, and their pivotal role in the Transcontinental Railroad.
  • Wednesday: 1940s Japanese Californians - Campers will explore our newly-updated Uprooted! exhibit to learn about how the Japanese American community was impacted by World War II. Campers will dive into the perseverance of the community and Japanese culture through food-related activities and crafts.
  • Thursday: Present Day Community Health and Activism- Campers will explore two exhibits, Health Happens Here and the Unity Center as a gateway to considering how issues of social justice present themselves in our lives as Californians today. Campers will explore themes of community solidarity, sustainability, and building a stronger future together.
  • Friday: Future Day- On our last day of camp, campers will explore two exhibits, Women Inspire and the California Hall of Fame. Together, campers will envision a more inclusive and equitable California and nominate prominent individuals for the next class of the California Hall of Fame.

Registration: A minimum of 8 registered participants are required to hold this event. In the event that the minimum is not met, you will be notified before the event date, and a full refund will be processed.


Information Letter: Once you have registered you can find the information letter by logging in to your My Account, go to My Events and select the event. Scroll to the bottom of the page to find the information letter under Additional Documentation. An e-mail will be sent out 1 week before the scheduled event with the information letter for the event. If you register after this time, you will need to go through your My Account to get the information letter or reach out to customer care.

Financial Aid: Financial assistance is available to girls/adults that have current memberships with Girl Scouts Heart of Central California. Payee must submit the Financial Aid Request form after registering to finalize your request. You may still be responsible for a portion of the fees.

 

Cancellations

  • If the activity requires a deposit, deposits are non-refundable.
  • You may swap participants up until the day of the activity.
  • Refunds will not be given for in-person activities or training fees of $5 and less.
  • All other activities will be processed as follows:
    • 21 calendar days before the activity 100%
    • 12-20 calendar days before the activity 50%
    • 11 or fewer calendar days before the activity No refunds

Once in a while, GSHCC may have to cancel an event. If Girl Scouts Heart of Central California finds it necessary to cancel an activity or training, all troops/groups or individuals having submitted registrations and payments will receive a full refund.
Note: In the event of extenuating circumstances such as illnesses, deaths in the immediate family, and other catastrophic events, GSHCC will consider refunds on a case-by-case basis.
All refund requests should be submitted in writing to Customer Care.
