Brownies! Make friends with things that creep and crawl under rocks and through logs with this special creepy, crawly Bugs Badge day! Visit the 88-acre nature preserve at the Effie Yeaw Nature Center to learn about our many-legged insect friends. Go on guided tours with center employees and complete activities to earn your Bugs badge!

Program facilitated by: A Naturalist at Effie Yeaw Nature Center, a GSHCC Program Partner Program

Program Fee: $15 for members

Program fee includes: Brownie Bugs Badge, in person instruction and a space for Girl Scouts to make new friends.

Supplies Needed:

  • Close-Toed Shoes
  • Refillable Water Bottle
  • Completed Waiver Forms
  • A face mask - Effie Yeaw staff may ask for masks to be worn depending on current COVID guidlines.

General Location: Carmichael, CA

  • Exact address can be found in your MYGS after registering for the event, and will also be included in the information letter.  

Note: This event takes place in an outdoor setting.

Registration: A minimum of 5 registered participants are required to hold this event. In the event that the minimum is not met, you will be notified before the event date, and a full refund will be processed.

Adult Supervision: Supervision will primarily be provided by program partner staff. There are a limited number of registration openings for adults to attend.

  • Attending adults must register for the event.
  • Space is limited, please keep registering adults to ratios listed in Safety Activity Checkpoints.
  • This event is hosted and run by a third party. GSHCC staff will not be present
  • If dropping off your girl, the authorized person at pick up will be required to show their ID.'
  • A limited number of Adult registration spots are available for this event. To register, you must be a registered Girl Scout Member, and be willing to assist the Naturalist during the session. The limitation on Adult Registration is to ensure the ecological preserve is protected during the hike.

COVID-19 Guidance: All staff, volunteers, and participants at any GSHCC event must adhere to the GSHCC COVID-19 policies listed on the website and additional guidelines noted within the program Information Letters at all times. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to Customer Care at CustomerCare@girlscoutshcc.org.

Information Letter: Once you have registered you can find the information letter by logging in to your My Account, go to My Events and select the event. Scroll to the bottom of the page to find the information letter under Additional Documentation. An e-mail will be sent out 1 week before the scheduled event with the information letter for the event. If you register after this time, you will need to go through your My Account to get the information letter or reach out to customer care.

Not a member? Join now and save! Become a member before registering for this event to take advantage of our member pricing, plus save on other GSHCC events for the rest of the year! A Girl Scout membership is $25 a year. A membership year runs from October to September.

Cancellations:

  • If the activity requires a deposit, deposits are non-refundable.
  • You may swap participants up until the day of the activity.
  • Refunds will not be given for in person activities or training fees of $5 and less.
  • All other activities will be processed as follows:
    • 21 calendar days before the activity – 100%
    • 12-20 calendar days before the activity – 50%
    • 11 or fewer calendar days before the activity – No refunds

Once in a while, GSHCC may have to cancel an event. In the event that Girl Scouts Heart of Central California finds it necessary to cancel an activity or training, all troops/groups or individuals having submitted registrations and payments will receive a full refund.
Note: In the event of extenuating circumstances such as illnesses, deaths in the immediate family and other catastrophic events, GSHCC will consider refunds on a case-by-case basis.
All refund requests should be submitted in writing to Customer Care.
