Adults preparing to take girls on an activity more than 30 minutes from an Emergency Medical Services (EMS) should take this course. This is a must for international travel, backpackers, and high adventure enthusiasts!

This 16-hour class takes place over two consecutive days, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Saturday and 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Sunday. The course provides a foundation of first aid principles and skills for individuals responding to remote emergencies when immediate emergency medical services will be delayed or are unavailable. This is a scenario based class, so there will be a lot of hands-on practice of skills.

Topics include primary and secondary assessments, practicing first aid skills in a wilderness setting, patient assessment, shock, bleeding, head, spinal injuries, wounds, burns, musculoskeletal injuries, heat and cold injuries, plus more!

Dates and times:

  • Saturday, October 11, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm
  • Sunday, October 12, 9:00 am to 12:00 pm 

Badge Connections: During this program girls will complete the following Badge steps:

  • Senior First Aid Badge - Step 1, 2 and 3
  • Ambassador First Aid Badge-Steps 1, 3, 4 and 5

Requirements: Participants must be CPR Certified.

Program facilitated by: GSHCC Staff.

Program Fee: $75 for girl and adult members.

Program Fee Includes: In-person instruction, Wilderness First Aid field guide, course materials and training patch. A badge is not included. The badge can be purchased separately from the Girl Scout Shop.

Supplies Needed: 

  • Full supply list will be included in the information letter in your MYGS after registering for the event once available. 

General Location: Somerset, CA

  • Exact address can be found in your MYGS after registering for the event, and will also be included in the information letter.

Note: This event will take place outdoors (weather permitting) and indoors.

Adult Supervision: Supervision will be provided by GSHCC staff if needed.

  • Attending adults must register for the event.
  • If dropping off your girl, the authorized person at pick up will be required to show their ID.

Essential Eligibility Criteria: GSHCC programs provide an inclusive environment to all girls. Please reference our general Essential Eligibility Criteria for details about classroom and outdoor-focused activities that will help you identify the skills needed to participate in programs successfully. This activity has additional Essential Eligibility Criteria, including: Participants must demonstrate that they can complete key first aid/cpr skills to become wilderness first aid certified. Please contact customer care if you are unsure whether or not you meet the criteria, or if you need a reasonable accommodation.

Registration: A minimum of 6 registered participants are required to hold this event. In the event that the minimum is not met, you will be notified before the event date, and a full refund will be processed.

Financial Aid: Financial assistance is available to girls/adults that have current memberships with Girl Scouts Heart of Central California. Payee must submit the Financial Aid Request form after registering to finalize your request. Requests must be submitted at least 2 weeks before the event date. You may still be responsible for a portion of the fees. 

Cancellations:

  • If the activity requires a deposit, deposits are non-refundable.
  • Refunds will not be given for in-person activities or training fees of $5 and less.
  • All other activities will be processed as follows:
    • 21 calendar days before the activity - 100%
    • 12-20 calendar days before the activity - 50%
    • 11 or fewer calendar days before the activity - No refunds

Once in a while, GSHCC may have to cancel an event. If Girl Scouts Heart of Central California finds it necessary to cancel an activity or training, all troops/groups or individuals having submitted registrations and payments will receive a full refund.
Note: In the event of extenuating circumstances such as illnesses, deaths in the immediate family, and other catastrophic events, GSHCC will consider refunds on a case-by-case basis.
All refund requests should be submitted in writing to Customer Care.
