Girl Scouts entering 6th-8th grade in the Fall. Start off your journey at Camp Menzies where you will learn canoe skills, plan your canoe packing trip, and curate your Canoe Crew expedition menu. From there you'll journey as a group to your destination, paddling to your campsite where you'll spend the rest of the trip practicing outdoor skills, preparing meals, stargazing and so much more! This trip is great for those who love to be on the water and are looking for a fun challenge! Activities Include: Trip planning, meal preparation, canoe packing, star gazing, knife skills, knot tying, swimming, and more.

Program Fee: $450 for girl members.
Program Fee Includes: In-person instruction and a space for Girl Scouts to make new friends. Includes all meals, lodging, transportation, most equipment, guides, activities, and instruction. Campers are required to bring appropriate clothing, water bottles, and other personal items.
Supplies Needed:
General Location: Pinecrest, CA. Transportation provided from Sacramento and Modesto.
Note: This event takes place in an outdoor setting.
Adult Supervision: Girl Scout supervision will be provided by GSHCC staff.
Essential Eligibility Criteria: GSHCC programs provide an inclusive environment to all girls. Please reference our general Essential Eligibility Criteria for details about classroom and outdoor-focused activities that will help you identify the skills needed to participate in programs successfully. This activity has additional Essential Eligibility Criteria, including: Work effectively as a member of a team, despite potentially stressful and difficult conditions. Expedition living is in close quarters with limited personal time. There can be a lack of, or variable, daily routines which will likely change day-to-day. Expedition living may require problem solving in a group setting, as well as a willingness to accept differences. Contribute to a safe learning environment. No verbal or physical inappropriate behavior towards others is tolerated for any reason. Willingly and equally share responsibility with tent/cabin mates in daily group chores. Chores may be split differently each day, but all participants will complete a proportionate share. All participants are learning the skills and being challenged by the conditions and activities. There can be no expectation that any other participant will be able to continually assume a greater share of the work or that an instructor can continually focus a greater share of their energy and time on one student. Effectively communicate ideas and concerns on an individual and group level. Each participant must be able to: Hold their breath while under water, and while wearing a properly fitted life jacket, be able to independently turn from a face down to a face up position, keeping their head above the water. Independently remain in an appropriate and safe body position, while in or on the paddle craft for the duration of the activity. Canoe - upright and seated or kneeling position. Independently or with a companion enter and exit the watercraft on shore. Independently exit from the watercraft in the event of a capsize, and perform an appropriate self-rescue or cooperate with an assisted rescue. Independently propel the watercraft with the use of a paddle or other adaptive piece of equipment. Control a paddle and pull it through the water in order to steer and propel the boat forward. In order to attempt self-rescues entailing re-entry of the craft while in deep water, each participant must be able to..Maneuver body and manipulate equipment to re-enter the craft. Registration: A minimum of 6 registered participants are required to hold this event. In the event that the minimum is not met, you will be notified before the event date, and a full refund will be processed.
Media Release Disclaimer: There may be photos or
video taken during this event. By registering for this event, you give
permission for GSHCC and GSHCC program partners to use photos/videos
of your girl to promote Girl Scouts. If you would like to opt out of
photographs/videos, please notify staff at event check-in.
Information Letter: Once you have registered you can
find the information letter at least 2 weeks before the event date, by
logging in to your My Account, go to My Events and select the event.
Scroll to the bottom of the page to find the information letter under
Additional Documentation. An email will be sent out 1 week before the
scheduled event with the information letter for the event. If you
register after this time, you will need to go through your My Account
to get the information letter or reach out to customer care.

Financial Aid: Financial assistance is available to girls/adults that have current memberships with Girl Scouts Heart of Central California. Payee must submit the Financial Aid Request form after registering to finalize your request. Requests must be submitted at least 1 month before the event date. You may still be responsible for a portion of the fees.
Cancellation Policy:
Once in a while, GSHCC may have to cancel an event. In the event
that Girl Scouts Heart of Central California finds it necessary to
cancel an activity or training, all troops/groups or individuals
having submitted registrations and payments will receive a full
refund.
Note: In the event of extenuating circumstances such as
illnesses, deaths in the immediate family and other catastrophic
events, GSHCC will consider refunds on a case-by-case basis.
